ByteFoldBook a call

Home/About

A software studio for tools that produce something real.

ByteFold builds browser-based configurators, design tools and AI platforms — the kind where the output has to be correct, not just attractive.

What we do

Most web software ends at the screen. The work we take on does not: a configurator has to produce a quote and an order, a design tool has to produce a file production can run, an AI platform has to produce a bill that reconciles. The interesting engineering is almost always at that boundary, where software stops being a picture and starts being an instruction.

That focus is deliberate. It means turning down work that is really a marketing site with a form on it, and taking on work where the hard part is a pricing rules engine, a canvas that has to stay at sixty frames per second, a generation pipeline whose output must stay editable, or a ledger that has to agree with a provider's invoice to the cent.

How we work

Fixed price, fixed scope

Hourly billing rewards slowness and punishes the client for discovering what they want. Every build is quoted as a fixed price against a written scope, agreed before anything starts. If the scope changes, we re-quote the change rather than quietly running up a meter.

Working software every week

You get a staging URL from the first week and it stays current. No month-long silences, no big reveal at the end. If something is going wrong you will see it early, which is the only time it is cheap to fix.

You own the code

The source is handed over at the end of every build. No licence that expires, no hosting you cannot leave, no situation where the only way to keep your own software running is to keep paying us. If you want ongoing work afterwards, it should be because the work is good.

Honest scoping

If 2D will do the job, we will say so rather than selling 3D. If an existing platform app covers eighty per cent of what you need for a fraction of the cost, we will tell you that too. The projects that go badly are almost always the ones that were mis-scoped at the start to win the work.

Where we work

Remote, with clients across the UK, Europe, North America and Australia. Most projects run over email and a weekly call — the work is written down rather than discussed, which travels better across time zones than a daily standup.

The name

A byte is data. A fold is a transformation — a flat sheet becoming an object, a parameter becoming geometry, a photograph becoming a design someone can buy. That is the whole business in two syllables.

If your process today is an email, a sketch, and somebody rebuilding it by hand afterwards — that's the problem I work on.
